Blossoming our future beacons of Islam

Qur’an Blossoms graduation ceremony 2011

When the religion of Islam is challenged and falsely accused, it is necessary for our Muslim communities to rise to the occasion and, through the values and good teachings of Islamic faith, debunk the myths and misconceptions surrounding the religion. The most effective way of doing this is by setting a good example, but to achieve this requires initiative and leadership guided by a mastery over the religion and its practices.

This past Saturday, at least 56 students between the ages of 3 and 5 graduated from the Muslim American Society’s Qur’an Blossoms program dedicated to teaching children the Qur’an as well as the basic foundations of Islam. Each of these children exhibits a high aptitude for knowledge, astounding intuition, high aspirations, and, of course, a love for the righteous ethics of the Muslim faith. These are our future leaders, both in society and under Islam, and the Qur’an Blossoms seeks to provide the resources and guidance necessary for their growth and development.

The graduation ceremony featured a variety of performances that showcased the students’ accomplishments and progress through the program. A series of acts involving singing and dancing highlighted each student’s key teambuilding skills. Dressed in costumes, the children enthusiastically sang about the importance of Islamic values in guiding their actions toward their families, friends, and community members.

The most inspirational moment of the ceremony occurred when each student approached the microphone and confidently addressed the crowd on his or her future endeavors. As it turns out, the Qur’an Blossoms helped in cultivating future professors, doctors, lawyers, police officers, and astronauts. It’s breathtaking to see so many young minds exhibit such interest in prestigious professions. Although it is likely that their interests might change over time, these children are already looking into the future – a future in which they will infuse Muslim values and an understanding of the Qur’an with any endeavor they choose to undertake.

These are the children of our future. Qur’an Blossoms recognizes the potential each student possesses and is designed to prepare the students for the challenging road ahead. Just Qur’an Blossoms does, we as a community must continue to encourage these students to strive for more. It is during these difficult times that we must make sure to maintain the values of Islam by entrusting them with our future generations.

We offer our most heartfelt congratulations to these students and we extend our gratitude toward Allah for blessing our community with these beacons of Islam.
