CCN offers free health screenings at MAS/ICNA Convention
By Suresh Bodiwala

Chicago IL: December 25 and 26, 2011 Compassionate Care Network (CCN) brought health into focus at the 2010 MAS / ICNA Convention. This past Christmas weekend, CCN held a free health clinic at the MAS / ICNA convention and screened 160 attendees from all over the country for blood pressure, diabetes, dental, vision, and obesity.
A group of volunteer physicians, medical students, and community volunteers, conducted the screenings. Any of the attendees who were categorized as “at-risk” received a health consultation from a physician on next steps required to care for their health. Ten local convention attendees who did not previously have health coverage joined CCN and will now have access to its reduced cost out-patient health care.
“We held a health screening at the MAS/ICNA Convention to raise health awareness within the Muslim community,” said Dr. Azher Quader, CCN’s Founder and Executive Director. “Also, this year’s convention theme, ‘Lend a hand, help light the way,’ is in step with CCN’s ethos. We hope that through health education and free screenings, people in our community learn to pay attention to their health and well-being. Currently, most ignore their symptoms and end up as patients in the Emergency Room. There is a lack of health education among Muslims and it is CCN’s goal to promote health awareness.”
CCN holds free health screenings every weekend at various community centers in and around the Chicagoland area. Everyone is invited to attend its free health screenings at any of its scheduled locations. No prior appointment is required, visit www.ccnchicago.com or call 773 775-3600 for more information.
